Romperayo sounds like a fast moving musical journey through Colombian tropical folklore, a mischievous and modern interpretation of the up-tempo rhythms of descarga and the psychedelic sounds of 70s cumbia. Expect musical fireworks that don’t only move your hips and feet, but also direct your brain into a blissful mood.
The group is part of a new Colombian music scene that re-interprets their roots in a fascinating way, combining both traditional rhythms and modern electronics. Other bands from this movement are Meridian Brothers, Frente Cumbiero and Los Pirañas amongst others. The scene is close-knit, there is even the occasional overlap between some of the bands: Pedro Ojeda, drummer of Romperayo, for example, is also the drummer of Los Pirañas.
Their frantic energy will give audiences no other option than to watch, dance and be happy!
“…it was one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen… Capable of pushing experimentation to its limits whilst never letting the groove suffer, this is a group firmly in the ‘tropical futurist’ bracket,
